The object of a new year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul.”

Happy New Year!!!! Do you have any big plans? We are getting a ton of snow tonight, so are going to have a movie marathon with some special drinks and party hats for the kids.
Maybe some special grown-up drinks too.
Great pics Stingray! Reminds me I have a batch of strawberry/rhubarb wine to bottle before I go back to work! Have a great celebration and start to 2013! We’re having friends and their kids over (total of 6 adults and 7 kids) and plan to old-school-it-up with Manhattans (several of us have never had one) and board games.
Sis,
Not really. We tend to treat New Year like any other night. I was just thinking today that next year the kids might be old enough to have some friends over and make more of a night out of it. My eldest is 8 and she’d be fine, but my youngest is 5. The combination of the three of them staying up till midnight would be . . . difficult
.
My big celebration is eating one more completely junk meal before I start getting back to healthy food and gym time tomorrow. There is something about the new year that really does make starting again easier. I am looking forward to it.
(If it weren’t for a headache, I would be hitting the grown up drinks too. A Bloody Mary sounds really good.)
AMD,
It sounds like you are in for a really good time tonight. Family groups are my favorite parties.
My dad is a regular Manhattan drinker. My kids love when he has one as they get to pick the cherries off the bottom of his glass. That strawberry/rhubarb wine sounds really good. I’ve never tried strawberry wine and I’d like to someday.
Looks like David letterman’s dad in the first pic, on the right. We are staying with the kids this year, I had a gig last year and wanted to be “in” this time.
OTC,
A gig? What do you play? Maritus used to be one hell of a guitar player. Les Paul.
Saxophone & woodwinds – swing dances, theater pits, that sort of thing. Last year NYE was a wedding reception with the most bored-looking wife I’ve ever seen.
OTC,
I love swing music. My husband has a work function that we go to every few years and they hire a small band with a sax, keyboard, bass violin and drums. I am mesmerized by the sax player every time we go. He has that cool jazz look about him and carries himself very well. It’s fun to watch.
